One of only four, of the thirteen regions of Namibia, to be border by the Atlantic ocean in the west, the Erongo region is by far one of the most popular tourist destinations of Namibia. With the town of Swakopmund as its magisterial capital the Erongo Region comprises of many smaller town such as Walvis Bay, Karibib, Omaruru and the ever popular Henties Bay.
The eastern region, of the Erongo Region of Namibia, being of a semi arid landscape, has lent itself perfectly to become the farming hub of the region. The areas around the Karibib, Omaruru and Okombahe/Uis villages are well situated to combine communal farming and commercial farming.
Further west, is the mining region of the Erongo Region, another industry which drives the economy of the Erongo Region. Gold mining at the Navachab Mines, near Karibib, and Uranium Mining, at Rossing Uranium Mine in Swakopmund, are two mined out of open pit mines. Two of the largest open pit mines in Namibia.
Along the Coast, fishing and tourism play equal roles in the economy. Walvis Bay is the principal home of the Namibian Fishing Industry, while places like Langstrand, Swakopmund and Henties Bay are major tourist draw-cards to the area. With miles upon miles of sandy beaches to explore, excellent fishing, fantastic water sport opportunities and plenty of sand dunes to climb the Erongo Region Coast is the Tourism hotspot for the Region.
